It's Here At Last!

It's December! This is probably my favorite month of the year. "Why?" You ask? Not only is it time to "deck the halls with bows of holly," but it's when the grass gets covered with a blanket of white, when families and friends get together to celebrate, when people take journeys to see the rest of the world (or they just stay at home watching Netflix), and it's also my birthday!

Let's start with the obvious. It's Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and many more holidays! This month is full of families meeting together for big dinners and parties. The bitterness of winter doesn't cool down the warmth inside the house. With the fireplace blazing and the smell of generations of family recipes lingering in the air, nothing beats this month. Not to mention one of the biggest nights of the year. New Years Eve! The countdown, the resolutions (that we all know will never actually happen), music performances, and the partying all build the anticipation for a brand new year. A new chance to become a better person. What surprises me is that even though we do the same thing every year (basically just staring at the TV until the ball drops), we never get tired. Instead, more people join the fun every time, making each year a new experience.

As I mentioned before, during the holidays families bring out their famous apple pie to share with loved ones. Not only do homemade recipes make their appearance at this time of year, but stores all over the world do to. Starbucks has a Ginger Bread and an Eggnog Latte that you can get now. Department stores even have their decorations up by Thanksgiving. You could go to Walmart and see cookie cutters shaped like snowflakes and Christmas sweaters in any clothing store.

When you hear the word December what do you think of? For me, I think of a white Christmas, hot chocolate, and winter sports. In winter you can ice skate, ski, play ice hockey, etc. I personally like to ice skate and ski. Imagine looking down on a mountain snow below you. You start to make your way down the mountain. The crisp wind bites your face as you pick up speed. An exhilarating feeling rushes through you from head to toe. At one point you just melt into the skis, becoming one with them... I realize that sounds very spiritual but it's true. When you make your way down the mountain, unless it's in poor condition, you don't even think about falling. Even if you do, it really isn't a problem because you can still get up (it might not be easy). The best part of skiing is doing with family or friends because you can make memories with them on the mountains.

We don't have to study for that one science test next week or finish the project that we've been procrastinating for ages. There are also those outgoing families who take this break to there advantage and actually travel to new places and create new memories. But this break isn't just for students, teachers finally get a break from everyone they see for 5 days a week, every week. I mean, let's face it, all teachers ave that one student they'd rather not see each day at work. Basically, everyone can finally sleep in and relax until a new year arrives.

These are just some of the reasons I think December is an awesome month. What are your favorite months?
