Weird Laws Around The World

Hey peoples!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you know that it is illegal to enter Wisconsin with a chicken on your head? I didn't. Today, as you may have guessed by the title, we're going to talk about 8 strange laws from around the world, but mostly from the US. Now you may be wondering why I would write about this, I mean I would. My inspiration came from YouTube! I don't know if you guys know him, but there's a guy on YouTube, named Alonzo Lerone, who reacted to a bunch of weird laws of the US in two of his videos. It was pretty interesting so I decided I would look into different kinds of laws you wouldn't expect to have....and yes I searched these up to make sure they were true and still valid.

1. In Western Australia it's illegal to own more than 50 kg (about 110 lbs) of potatoes
This law was established in 1946 as a result of food regulation from post-war food security and the Great Depression. I guess it made sense at the time because there wasn't enough food to give every family that much food. The only time you can have this much potatoes is if you buy it from a place that the Potato Corporation authorizes. This is fine and all but my question is why? Why would one need more than 110 pounds of potatoes? I don't know, maybe it's just me, but even though I like french fries and other potato-containing stuff I don't buy a bunch of potatoes. Even more of a reason not to break this law is because if you do then you have to pay at most $2,000 for first offense and $5,000 if you keep doing it. In my opinion, I think it's pretty pointless to buy that much potatoes in Western Australia, but hey, it's your call.

2. There is a Kindness Awareness Month in New Jersey
This isn't a law but I thought it would be interesting add. May is officially Kindness Awareness Month in New Jersey. Yes, because we New Jerseyans are so mean that we need a whole month dedicated to remind us to be nice to others... I'm just joking if you didn't get it btw. Most states have Random Acts of Kindness Days, but New Jersey decided to make a whole month just for it. But I'm not complaining because it doesn't hurt to be nice to others. I'm all for being nice to others no matter the reason.

3. It's illegal for a donkey to sleep in a bathtub in Arizona
Don't confuse this with standing. Donkeys can stand in a bathtub whenever they want but once they start sleeping it becomes a problem. This law makes me question what goes on in farms. I mean, the fact that they needed to make a law for this is a little concerning. Apparently in Arizona a farmer's donkey got used to sleeping in a bathtub. I'm gonna stop here quickly to say one thing... Why is the donkey sleeping in a bathtub. Isn't that uncomfortable? It'd make more sense if it was some sort of bed or something but whatever. Anyway, one day a dam broke, flooding surrounding areas, including the ranch where the farmer and donkey lived. The donkey rode the bathtub in the flood all the way into a basin. It took a bunch of people and resources to save the donkey but they did it. To prevent this from ever happening again, the state of Arizona passed a law banning donkeys from sleeping in bathtubs in 1924. Just imagine what the donkey was thinking...

4. UFOs and Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Sorry Mator, you and Mater won't be able to fly over Châteauneuf-du-Pape. UFOs are banned from flying over Châteauneuf-du-Pape and when they land, they'll be held in custody immediately. A man apparently saw two Martians coming out of a "cigar-like machine" at his garden. They flashed a green light at him and he became paralyzed. Once he recovered, they had disappeared and so did the spaceship. Now, this is coming from a region where their red wine is very special to them so... This is a 62 year old ban that is still active because the current mayor refuses to take it down. It's not that he believes that aliens will come to take over the world or anything, but he believes that it spices things up a bit and no one gets tricked. Imagine having that kind of mayor. I'd honestly like to see what life would be like if we had that mayor. It would be pretty interesting.

5. You can't get drunk in a bar in Alaska
Now I don't drink or anything, but I'm pretty sure you go to a bar to drink... and sometimes you drink too much and get drunk. So when I read this I got a little confused. I mean, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of a bar? The reason behind this law makes sense, but I feel like they could modify it a bit. The reason this law was put in place is because the main influence of a large number of crimes committed in Alaska is alcohol. Most criminals are drunk while in the middle of doing an act against the law. The law does makes sense- no one getting drunk in a bar means less people will have this as part of the reason they got arrested. I feel like it would be better if there was a limit to how much a person can drink at a bar. That could be more controlled than saying that you can't get drunk because sometimes a person can't stop drinking. I don't know, that's just what I think.

6. Halloween in Delaware
Halloween is one of the best holidays for kids because they get candy. I mean who doesn't love the sugary goodness. Putting rules on this holiday starts to ruin the fun of it though. In Rehoboth, Delaware, kids can only go Trick-or-Treating between 6PM-8PM. I don't know about you, but I like to finish Trick-or-Treating past 8. But that's not all. If Halloween is on a Sunday, you have to do it the day before within the same time span. Also, if you're older than 14 YOU CAN'T TRICK-OR-TREAT! Why would you put an age limit on that?!?! It should depend on the person if they want to stop. I know I wouldn't... good thing I don't live in Delaware. :)

7. Water limit for bathtubs in Ontario
In Etobicoke, Ontario it's illegal to have more than 3.5 inches of water in your bathtub. Is it even a real bath if you don't fill it with at least a little more water? This law is supposed to protect people in bathtubs mostly likely from drowning and it makes sense, I just feel like they could have raised the water level a little bit.

8. Finally, bad smells in Canada.
"Offending a place with a bad smell" is illegal in Canada. This law cracks me up because the first thing I thought of was how farting in public is illegal. Hehehe get it? Cracks because..... ok, I'll stop now. Obviously that's not the only thing under the "bad smells" category, but just imagine people holding it in.... I'm sorry if you actually did imagine it. Anyway, when you go to Canada make sure you take baths and be careful of what you eat (the food can't smell bad either) because you could get into a lot of trouble if you don't.

That's all for now! This was a lot fun to write. Man, you would be surprised if you saw the laws I found from different countries. I hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I did!

Here are the links to Alonzo Lerone's videos if you were interested (some laws are a bit innapropriate though):
